Schools and colleges

Safe, dependable IT for teaching, administration and the students who use it.

Schools and colleges depend on IT for teaching, fees, records and communication with parents, and they usually have a small team and a tight budget to run it.

We help you build a network and a set of controls that suit a campus, protect the data you hold about students and staff, and keep systems running through term time.

Wi-Fi that copes with a campus, protection for staff and student devices, and care for the records a school holds about its pupils.

Risks we see most often

  • Open or overloaded Wi-Fi

Hundreds of student devices on the same network as the administration office is a common weakness.

  • Records about children

Student information needs more care than most data, and its loss is hard to repair.

  • Shared lab machines

Computers used by many people pick up malware and settings that nobody planned.

  • Limited IT staff

A single teacher or technician often runs everything alongside other duties.

  • Fee and payroll fraud

Fake messages asking for changed bank details target school finance offices.

What we put in place

  • Separated networks

Student, staff, guest and administration networks kept apart, with content filtering for students.

  • Campus Wi-Fi design

Coverage and capacity planned for the number of devices, by building.

  • Lab and staff device protection

Protection, updates and a way to restore lab machines to a clean state.

  • Backup of school records

Student, finance and exam records copied away from the school and tested.

  • Support through term

Help during term, and maintenance planned for holidays.

Student data and the Data Protection Act, 2019

Schools hold personal data about children, and Kenyan data protection law has particular expectations for that. Good practice includes limiting who can see records, keeping them secure and not holding them longer than needed. Check the current requirements and take advice from your education authority or a lawyer.
