Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure are both large, established cloud platforms. Either can run most business workloads. The better choice depends on your situation more than on the platforms themselves.
What usually decides it
- What you already use: a business that runs on Microsoft products such as Windows servers or Microsoft 365 often finds Azure fits more naturally.
- What your applications need: some software vendors support or certify one platform more than the other. Ask yours.
- Who will look after it: the best platform is the one your team or your provider knows well.
- Where the data must live: some organisations have rules about where information is kept. Check the regions available and the requirements that apply to you.
- Cost shape: both charge by use. What matters is how your workload behaves, so estimate it before you commit.
A sensible way to decide
- List the systems you run and what each depends on.
- Ask each vendor of your key software which platform it supports.
- Estimate the monthly cost for one real workload on both.
- Start with a small, low-risk move on the platform you choose, and learn from it.
